You can have a game like Bejeweled which isn't super ambitious but can be a perfect, bug-free, no-bs experience. I've often felt like games really should be reviewed on the binary axis of ambition and polish. Speaking of which the writing is very good at show-don't-tell and trusting the player to be smart enough to understand what's going on. You wouldn't think that would matter for hand-drawn cell-shaded game, but frame drops are really noticeable in a platformer where you need smooth motion.Īlmost all the bosses are fun to fight, rewarding a fast, aggressive play-style.Īnd they have no microtransaction bullshit. They have few animated cutscenes, but the cutscenes are quality with a lot of character. Nothing gets too annoying to listen to even after you've been in the same area for hours.
